Scoliosis Management

What is Scoliosis?

Scoliosis Is...

Scoliosis is a condition that affects the spine, causing it to curve in such a way that the misaligned vertebrae pull muscles and pinch nerves, causing pain and a loss in range of movement. Causes of scoliosis vary, and include a bone abnormality at birth, called congenital scoliosis, abnormal nerves or muscles, in which case it is known as neuromuscular scoliosis, or a trauma like illness or injury, surgery, or degeneration from aging, which results in degenerative scoliosis. Frequently, though, it’s impossible to determine the reason for scoliosis, and in that case it falls under the category of idiopathic scoliosis.

Treatment...

Traditionally, scoliosis specialists have been limited in how they can treat this condition, with the only options being a very restrictive brace or spinal surgery. Now many scoliosis doctors, including those at Advanta Total Health, have begun to utilize the SpineCor brace, which allows for more freedom of movement, and improves patient outcomes.
