Reach your New Year’s Resolutions

With 2013 drawing to a close, now is a great time to learn how to set goals for yourself in order to make effective New Year’s resolutions! While you may have a vague sense that you should change your habits, maybe by losing weight, being more organized, or some other fuzzy idea, this kind of thinking is not likely to help you stick to your goals. Many resolutions fail before February, but you can change this for yourself by creating goals that put you on the path to optimum health.

First, be sure you have a manageable plan. Create resolutions using specific terminology, rather than vague concepts. “I will exercise twice a week and eat 3 extra servings of vegetables each day” is more actionable than “I will lead a healthier lifestyle”. Lofty ambitions can often derail you, so make your goals small enough to accomplish, and create a clear timetable to complete them. Use common sense and keep your expectations realistic- you’re probably not going to drop three sizes by Valentine’s Day, and making that kind of goal will probably end in discouragement that leads to inaction. If you’re looking for inspiration, Advanta Total Health has some suggestions for New Year’s resolutions that will help you reach your own optimum health and wellness goals.

• Incorporate healthier eating habits as part of your overall healthy lifestyle. Weight loss need not be one of goals for eating better to improve your health. If your diet is already as healthy as it can be, choose a different healthy lifestyle habit- the key is to pick one thing over which you have control, and make it better.
• If losing weight is your objective, make sure your weight loss plan makes sense. Fad diets often create poor health and frustration, but making healthier choices will benefit your whole body in the long run. You may not know how to begin, but the medical professionals at Advanta Total Health can help you find the right weight loss solution for you.
• Replace bad habits with a good ones. You might want to quit smoking, spend less time on the couch, or stop thinking negatively. Frame it in a positive way, cultivating a good habit in place of the bad one, and you’ll see improvement in your health and mood.
• Resolve to exercise your brain. Maybe you’ll want to decide to read one book each month, or maybe you’d like to set aside 20 minutes each day to write, or sign up for a class and learn a new skill. Whatever it is, choose some way to stretch your mind. While you’re at it, make a point to learn from other people.
• Keep your plans simple. If oral health is your goal, make a resolution to floss each night. Small, simple steps can make a big difference in the long run. Plan to carry a water bottle, or park further away from your office, or turn off the television at a certain time each night- even if a goal seems too easy, remember that the little things add up to big lifestyle changes.
• Don’t shy away from asking for help. A support group, a friend who will hold you accountable, or a medical professional with good advice can be a boon to your progress. Sometimes, just listening to another person’s experiences can help you clarify your own intentions and goals.
• Fill your life with purpose. Increase your awareness of the choices you are making, and decide to make them count. The small things you do and say every day add up to the life you are living, so make sure that the choices you are making are keeping you pointed toward the goals you want to reach.

The Secret to a Long Life!

For centuries we’ve been looking for it: The secret to a long life!

In my lifetime there have been dozens of studies to discover why some people live to be 120 or older.

None of these very expensive scientific studies discovered the ONE common denominator that ALL long-living people have but you, dear reader, in this article today, will find out what it is. When you do, you may think one of three things:

  • “That’s the stupidest thing I ever heard”
  • “Why did nobody ever figure this out?” or
  • “Wow, that’s really cool!”

Here’s some background…

Back in the 1960s people over 100 years old were “discovered” by western researchers in the Caucasus Mountains. Because they ate a lot of yogurt, their longevity was thought to be due to the yogurt they ate. This theory resulted in a Dannon Yogurt commercial that fueled the yogurt craze of the 1970s and 80s.

When Tibetans over 110 were discovered in the 1990s , some “experts” in nutrition thought it was due to the water they drank from the cold Himalayan rivers. This spawned a rash of health products containing minerals and ‘trace elements’ touted for a time by still more health “experts”.

When 65-year-old Native South American people were observed to have bodies that looked 20 years younger than their North American counterparts, it was credited to the exotic plants in their rain forest diets.

So what did these theories accomplish in the search for health and longevity? Well…

  • Yogurt marketers made a lot of money and produced a lot of phlegm for the American public.
  • “Trace Elements” and mineral products caused joint pain and calcific tendonitis in thousands of Americans (including this writer) AND..
  • It resulted in a million other ‘secret to long life’ products that made a lot of money for the people who sold them but did nothing to help the poor schmucks who bought them.

None of these researchers found the SINGLE common denominator connected why ALL these groups lived such long and HEALTHY lives. But it was there all along and it was staring them right in the face.

Have you guessed what it is yet? It’s the one single common factor in ALL people who live to be over 100 and stay healthy the whole time. Ready? It’s being…

Underweight!

Yes, that’s right. The ONE thing ALL the people over 100 years old have in common is they carry substantially less weight than western science and medicine says they should in order to be ‘normal’ or healthy.

Does this shock you? Does it make you totally lose interest or hope in living a long healthy life because you think you can’t be thin or go without eating delicious food all the time?  Well it shocked many western observers AND most Americans never hear about this discovery.

But, the facts are undeniable and there for all to see. Have you ever heard of a 100 year-old overweight person? No, you haven’t. Because there aren’t any. In fact, people who are very overweight RARELY live past 70. And that’s in a country where the average life expectancy is 78.

So why hasn’t the American health system capitalized on this discovery?  Well, to some extent we are.  After 50 years of a steady increase in chronic disease in the U.S.  Even the Main Stream Media are talking about the need for Americans to lose fat.  But progress is painfully slow.

So that leads me to the American Health System, the American Food System and the American Way of Life which, in my opinion, is not only killing us but also making the lives of millions of Americans MISERABLE. And it’s all being done in the name of the almighty dollar.

So, if you want to avoid being a statistic.  If you want to be in the vanguard of the march to DRASTICALLY improved health and longevity. If you DO NOT want to fall victim to the profit-making juggernaut that enslaves millions of Americans our disease-causing food system disease-maintaining health care system. Then keep reading….

In coming articles you’ll learn:

  • How to get and stay thin.
  • How to be disease free and…
  • How to be pain free.

After all, at my clinic, Advanta Total Health, we have a keen focus on health and longevity from the inside out including medical weight loss, nutritional counseling, and even food allergy testing to help you to live a long and healthy life!

So keep on reading and, in your quest to stay or become healthy and happy, remember what Winston Churchill said…”NEVER GIVE UP! NEVER GIVE UP! NEVER GIVE UP!!!”.
